What interests you about the Estradiol test?
What role does estradiol play in the body?
The hormone estradiol is responsible for maintaining a favorable environment for oocytes in the ovaries. It also plays a significant role in the initiation and maintenance of female secondary sex characteristics—development of breast tissue, changes in body shape, bone construction, and fat deposition (3).
How does a low level of estrogen manifest itself?
Symptoms of estrogen deficiency include painful sexual intercourse due to reduced moisture of the vaginal mucosa, increased risk of urinary tract infections, irregular or absent menstruation, mood changes, hot flashes, increased breast sensitivity, headaches or worsening of pre-existing migraines, depression, concentration problems or fatigue (4).
What causes excess estrogen?
Excess estrogen can be caused by obesity (5), stress (6), polycystic ovary syndrome (7) or certain medications. Symptoms of long-term elevated estrogen levels may include fatigue, increased breast tenderness, low mood or anxiety, headaches, weight gain, or worsening of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Of the more serious ones, fibrocystic lumps in the breasts or fibroids in the uterus may occur (8).

How to regulate estradiol levels?
You can increase your estradiol levels naturally, for example with certain foods (soybeans, flax and sesame seeds), vitamins (B and D) and herbs (evening primrose oil, red clover, yarrow). The best source of phytoestrogens is a plant-based diet (9).

What indicates a hormonal imbalance?
Hormonal imbalance is indicated, for example, by irregular menstruation, hair loss and reduced quality, sexual dysfunction (loss of libido, painful intercourse), weight fluctuations or mood swings. Examination of hormones (e.g. testosterone, estrogen, AMH) will reveal them quantity and functionality (4, 8).
