What interests you about the Folic acid test?

What contains the most folic acid?

As the name itself suggests, among the foods with the highest content of folic acid are leafy vegetables such as spinach, cabbage and lettuce. It is also rich in legumes, citrus fruits, beets and broccoli. Some products such as cereals and bakery mixes are fortified with folic acid to ensure sufficient intake.

How is folic acid deficiency manifested?

Lack of folic acid manifests itself in fatigue, impaired growth, hematopoiesis and digestion, changes in the mucous membranes (especially in the mouth), weakness, paleness, forgetfulness and mood swings. You can also have a red tongue, canker sores, numb limbs, diarrhea and weakened immunity.

Why is folic acid important?

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin essential for DNA replication and as a substrate for a number of enzymatic reactions involved in the synthesis of amino acids. Ensuring sufficient intake is therefore recommended for women planning pregnancy, especially as a prevention of developmental disorders of the nervous system of the fetus (15).

How to supplement folate (folic acid)?

You can supplement folic acid simply by adjusting your diet. As the name suggests, the foods with the highest folate content include dark leafy vegetables (spinach, romaine lettuce, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli), as well as legumes, peanuts, sunflowers, liver and eggs. Some products such as cereals or bakery mixes are artificially enriched.
