About this test
Anti HBs are specific antibodies directed against the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). The hepatitis B virus causes infectious inflammation of the liver – viral hepatitis B (type B jaundice).
Anti HBs antibodies appear after the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) has disappeared from the serum. Their presence is typical following recovery from an acute hepatitis B infection or following vaccination. After recovery from hepatitis B, these antibodies may persist long-term in most people. Measuring Anti HBs is important for assessing immunity to the hepatitis B virus. The appearance of Anti HBs antibodies following an acute infection indicates recovery from the disease and the development of immunity to the virus.
Interpretation of results
For a correct interpretation, it is also necessary to test for HBsAg and total Anti HBc.

Laboratory test results must always be interpreted in the context of the patient’s medical history, clinical condition, and the results of other laboratory and diagnostic tests. Deviations from normal values are not sufficient on their own to establish a diagnosis, and values within the normal range do not always mean that a disease is absent. It is advisable to consult a doctor about the results.

Symptoms of acute viral hepatitis B
An acute hepatitis B virus infection may be asymptomatic in many of those infected. In some patients, it may progress to a chronic stage, even in the absence of symptoms during the acute phase. Patients with chronic hepatitis B are often unaware of their condition because they have no symptoms. However, they are a source of infection for others. In some patients, chronic hepatitis can progress and lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.
If acute hepatitis does present with symptoms, these may include:

jaundice (yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes),

fatigue,

nausea and vomiting,

abdominal pain (particularly under the right rib cage),

dark urine and pale stools,

flu-like symptoms,

joint pain,

skin and neurological symptoms.

What is the preparation before blood collection?
You should arrive for your blood collection in the morning and on an empty stomach. It is also recommended to drink water before the blood collection. How can I pay for the collection?
