ASLO
ASLO (Anti-streptolysin O) is a protein, an antibody produced to act against exotoxin named streptolysin O. Streptolysin O is produced by many beta-haemolytic strain-A, C, G Streptococcus bacteria (especially in Streptococcus pyogenes). About this test
ASLO (Anti-streptolysin O) is a protein, an antibody produced to act against exotoxin named streptolysin O. Streptolysin O is produced by many beta-haemolytic strain-A, C, G Streptococcus bacteria (especially in Streptococcus pyogenes). Streptococcal infections are among the most common bacterial infections of the upper respiratory tract, especially in childhood.
ASLO levels in blood are monitored after an infection, usually by the end of week 1 - 4 from the start of the infection, with maximum levels in week 3 - 6, and dropping back to normal levels within 2 to 3 months, sometimes even 6 to 12 months. Elevated ASLO levels prove the body produces antibodies against the Streptococcus bacteria, but also against its own tissues. The immune reactions generated after an untreated or insufficiently treated streptococcal infection can result in severe post-streptococcal consequences in the future, such as rheumatic fever, reactive arthritis, and glomerulonephritis. The interpretation of results will take into account both the dynamic development of antibodies and the absolute count. The test should be repeated at the interval of several weeks.

- Increased ASLO levels in the blood are evidence of the presence of streptococcal antibodies in your body, which can nevertheless also act against the body tissues.
- ASLO level rises within 3-6 weeks after a streptococcal infection. The monitoring of ASLO levels helps to assess chronic problems caused by streptococcus bacteria.
- It is advisable to take this test repeatedly at different intervals to detect decreased or increased ASLO levels.

High values
Increased values can indicate a previous streptococcal infection, or be considered as a symptom of streptococcal angina, scarlet fever, inflamed dental alveoli, sinusitis, rheumatic fever, purulent skin infection. The antibody levels should be monitored. Even post-streptococcal consequences of previous asymptomatic streptococcal infections cannot be excluded.
Low values
Reduced levels can indicate a non-streptococcal infection, an incorrect interval of blood draw, or previous antibiotic treatment or treatment with corticosteroids.

What is the preparation before blood collection?
You should arrive for your blood collection in the morning and on an empty stomach. It is also recommended to drink water before the blood collection. How can I pay for the collection?
The payment is always made online via Unilabs Online.
