What interests you about the Differential blood count test?

What can be determined from the blood count?

A blood count test is used to detect changes in the number and quality of blood cells. Deviations can point to either an ongoing disease, e.g. infection or a disease of the blood-forming organs. Changes in the blood count can appear even before the first symptoms appear.

What does a bad blood count mean?

Increased or decreased values of blood cells can portend some diseases. For example, a higher amount of red blood cells can indicate stress, dehydration, and it can also be a heart, liver or kidney disease, lack of folic acid or other, more rare diseases, such as tumors (10).

When is the blood count examined?

A blood count is examined routinely as part of an annual preventive check-up by a general practitioner, further as part of pre-operative preparation, for symptoms of anaemia, for suspected infection, cancer or when taking certain medications.

What will the blood test show?

Blood is a basic diagnostic medium, the analysis of which can detect disease states even before the onset of symptoms. Blood analysis will provide important information about a person's physical condition, sometimes also about "hidden" problems or incipient diseases (infectious, chronic, or cancerous).

What does it mean when sedimentation is increased?

Increased sedimentation is most often a sign of ongoing inflammation. This can be chronic (such as rheumatism) or acute, caused by bacteria or viruses. Inflammation may not be the only cause of increased sedimentation. Others include anemia, kidney damage, cancer, but also pregnancy (11). Therefore, further examination is necessary, which is indicated by the attending physician.
