The Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia package includes blood testing.

Laboratory examinations are generally not required before procedures performed under local anesthesia that do not require anesthesiological care. (1)

However, they may be used for various planned minor surgical procedures (such as mole removal, scar correction), outpatient dental surgery, ophthalmic surgery within one-day surgery, etc.

They serve as one of the sources of information about the patient’s overall health condition, which can help prevent potential risks during the operation and the subsequent healing process.

About this test

The Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia package includes blood testing.

Laboratory examinations are generally not required before procedures performed under local anesthesia that do not require anesthesiological care. (1)

However, they may be used for various planned minor surgical procedures (such as mole removal, scar correction), outpatient dental surgery, ophthalmic surgery within one-day surgery, etc.

They serve as one of the sources of information about the patient’s overall health condition, which can help prevent potential risks during the operation and the subsequent healing process.

Why undergo Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia?

The Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia package offers an analysis of blood parameters that may reveal abnormalities capable of influencing the course of the procedure and the healing of surgical wounds.

What should you know about the Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia package?

Before procedures under local anesthesia, preoperative testing is usually not required, unlike in the case of general anesthesia or procedures requiring anesthesiological care. (1) However, in our laboratory, you can choose to have these tests performed. Another advantage is the quick delivery of results.

List of blood parameters tested in the Preoperative Laboratory Tests – Local Anesthesia package

  1. Complete blood count with differential helps assess overall health status and determine the risk of infections, inflammation, immune system disorders, and blood clotting problems.
  2. PT-INR (prothrombin test) and aPTT-R (activated partial thromboplastin time) help detect blood coagulation disorders and monitor treatment with medications that affect blood clotting.
  3. Blood glucose (glycemia) helps detect disorders of glucose metabolism, such as hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar), diabetes, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
  4. Liver parameters (AST, ALT, GGT, and bilirubin) are substances sensitive to changes in liver function and to liver tissue or bile duct damage. They help detect disorders that may influence, for example, the metabolism of anesthetics and medications.
  5. Sodium and potassium levels, minerals involved in maintaining fluid and acid-base balance, are indicators of proper cellular function.
  6. Creatinine and urea: The level of creatinine in the blood can be used to calculate the glomerular filtration rate of the kidneys, which serves as a measure of kidney function. Determining urea levels is useful as an indicator of kidney function and the degree of body hydration. Proper kidney function is important, among other things, for the elimination of certain drugs and anesthetics.
  7. Testing for infectious diseases transmitted by blood or other body fluids:

a) HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen),

b) anti-HCV IgG (specific antibodies against Hepatitis C virus),

c) anti-HIV – antibodies against HIV,

d) anti-T. pallidum – antibodies against the causative agent of syphilis.
