What interests you about the ALT?
What is ALT?
ALT or alanine aminotransferase is an enzyme present in the cytoplasm of cells of some tissues. It is important for the formation and breakdown of amino acids and plays a role in the metabolism of nitrogen and glucose. Elevated ALT occurs when the integrity of cells, especially the liver, is disrupted.
How to lower ALT levels?
To lower ALT levels, drink coffee, add folic acid to your diet, lower your cholesterol, and avoid alcohol and smoking. High ALT levels indicate liver damage, specifically liver enzymes that are not functioning properly and are not being released into the bloodstream.
